Hey there 👋,
Thanks for reading another BuildFaster newsletter! Like always, if you have any requests, feedback, or just want to say "hi", send me an email at brayden45.dev@gmail.com. I'd be happy to chat.
An amazing theme is coming soon… 😉
After releasing the Lightning Blue theme, I have gotten lots of love from developers who said they liked it.
It’s kind of a no-brainer. It’s content packed, very modern, and customizable!
Anyway, I’m releasing a new multi-page theme for startups in a couple weeks. Here’s a preview. 👇
How does it look? Have any tips or feedback on it? I’d be happy to listen to your thoughts! Just ping me at brayden45.dev@gmail.com and I’ll give you a special discount for doing so. 😄
CSS Framework poll: 250+ votes! 👏
Have you ever taken a look at the long list of CSS frameworks? I’m sure you probably have. It might make you wonder, “There’s so many to choose… How do I pick one?
Let see if this image helps. ⬇
It’s a screenshot I took of the results for a poll I posted recently on Indiehackers. I asked tons of developers this question:
🤔 CSS frameworks... which is #1?
The poll had 250+ votes at the time of this writing.
So without further ado, let’s start analyzing this data!
#3: Bulma
With 12% of the votes, Bulma comes in 3rd. What is Bulma? It’s a open-source CSS framework based on flexbox.
Bulma operates off of only one CSS file. If you want to customize the variables further, you can download each of the SASS files for customization. I talk more about SASS variables in a previous issue.
On Indiehackers, @JaredMoats says why he loves Bulma:
Bulma is much more lightweight and less "opinionated" than Bootstrap. You can build a frontend very quickly with it, and it's easier to customize.
I will definitely have to try Bulma out for a future landing page after seeing the great reviews.
#2: Bootstrap
Yep, I’m sure you’ve heard of this one.
Bootstrap is a great way to create MVPs, quick mock ups, and websites faster than from scratch. It’s very simple to use and quick-to-setup. Bootstrap has gotten a love over the past years and is still at the top of the rankings.
Even better, Bootstrap 5 alpha is live and fresh with a brand new look.
I am loving it! 👍
It also comes with a great theme marketplace and plugins for developers.
#1: TailwindCSS
With over 130 of the 259 votes, TailwindCSS takes the #1 spot! 🏆
TailwindCSS is a utility-first CSS framework for creating fast with ease. It already comes with the building blocks you’ll need to make your website.
You can use premade classes like text-gray-600
and justify-start
to easily customize your plain HTML code.
@michaelbrooks says:
It gives you way more control over Bootstrap, and you mostly don't need to worry about overwriting classes in your CSS. Utility design is getting popular, to a point where Bootstrap are going in the direction for their latest version.
If you haven’t tried it out yet, I suggest you do. It is quite a jaw-dropper 😲 for how easy it is to use.
Wrapping up 👋
